40% of young men in the USA and the Czech Republic are single
Sociological study The Rise of the Ona Economy Investment bank Morgan Stanley says that 41% of women aged 25-44 were single in 2019, and the bank projects that number to 45% by 2030. Single is defined as not having a steady boyfriend, only occasional acquaintances and dates. Pay inequality has decreased from 64% in 1980 to 77-85% of male earnings in 2019.
This percentage seems absurdly high. In another study Half of American adults say dating has gotten harder in the past 10 years from 2020 (over 10,000 respondents) states that In the US, 311,191,000 people aged 18+ are single. (47% blacks, 28% whites, 27% Hispanics, and 25% with college and 34% without college). At the age of 18-29, there are 41% single US residents for both sexes, of which 51% men and 32% women and then 56% LGBT and 37% heterosexual. That sounds much more realistic – a significantly lower percentage of singles and in the group under 29. In the age group of 30-49, there are 23% singles. In the age group of 50-64, there are 29% singles.
The study lists and calculates the reasons why some people want to be single (usually other priorities) and why other singles cannot find a partner (difficult life situation, negative dating experience). Both women and men agree that dating is more difficult than before after the MeToo movement, and that they are sometimes unsure of how to behave. It seems to me that there is less financial motivation to date, because people can often finance their own housing. And there are so many entertainment activities, especially on the Internet, that can partially replace dating.
In the Czech Republic, sexual relations between people are dealt with, among others, by the research Contemporary Czech Family of Charles and Masaryk Universities. In an excerpt from this research from 2026 and 3700 respondents aged 21-74 Single women are usually not looking for a relationship, while men are more often single involuntarily. Singles try their luck on the Internet states: 18% singles, 16 % single men and 21 % single women. In the population of the Czech Republic aged 20-29, there are 38% single men and 25% single women. Of the singles, 21% men aged 21-29 and 24% men aged 30-39 are involuntarily without a girlfriend – they cannot find a suitable partner. Another 4% and 10% men in the given age groups are actively looking for a partner. 51% and 48 % single men are not opposed to a relationship, but are not actively looking. Among women, only 5% (21-29 years) and 13% (30-39 years) are involuntarily single. 2% and 5% women in the given age groups are actively looking for a boyfriend. 76% (21-29 years) and 54% (30-39 years) women are not opposed to a relationship, but are not actively looking. The rest give other reasons why they want to be single.
Women have a better age-distributed single participation for two reasons. They are in relationships with older men (i.e. young women are less single than younger men). Second, after the age of 50, men die earlier and single women gradually begin to predominate.
Third, there are slightly more boys being born in the world. According to Ourwoldindata.org is the ratio of 19 girls to 20 boys born worldwide. The ratio of 1.05 in favor of boys also applies in the long term to the Czech Republic – according to Czech Statistical Office in the 0-14 age group. The exceptions to the birth rate or predominance of young women are currently Cambodia (98 boys per 100 girls under 30) and some small exotic island states.
