How does the drug ecstasy work?
First personal experience. Then known biological effects.
Personal experience with the drug ecstasy
The onset of ecstasy (half or one pill taken once every 2 months) is gradual after about 30 minutes to an hour. The peak is quite long, 30 minutes, and then a pleasant dulling. They don't work on me. But ecstasy is a lot. At first, it warms you up enormously. Then you feel an increase in sensitivity to touch and music. It basically turns off stress and you just need to be alone and listen to music.
I still feel good for a few days afterwards and I want to work a lot. I feel like I see things more freely. I am kinder to myself and to others. I take it once every six months because it hurts my jaw muscles a lot. And after such a long time, the effect probably doesn't diminish. I don't take other drugs - they don't work for me (cocaine, gingerbread or marijuana, LSD only increased my concentration) and alcohol breaks down my immunity. Alcohol will make it worse, but the combination will significantly increase the risks to the body and brain. Ecstasy without alcohol is quite enough on its own.
Ecstasy improves my concentration on one task and reduces my multitasking. When you lie down and listen to music, you don't want to get up. As soon as you get up, you're like a fish again. Darkness is better, but even bright light doesn't interfere with your experience. Vision gets very slightly to negligibly worse, as if it's foggy. An inexperienced person won't even notice it. Sensitivity to smells decreases - urine, for example, is almost unsmellable and tastes like salt water. Ecstasy reduces minor pain. You don't feel minor pinches or minor pains or tension in your tendons. I'm guessing that in this regard, ecstasy can also have an anti-inflammatory effect - because you gently stretch those tendons for comfort. But you perceive sharper pain the same way. An enema is not unpleasant. The body behaves naturally relaxed during an enema and, unlike a sober enema, you practically don't feel even the slightest discomfort. However, a strong enema will wash away the drug to a large extent.
I probably wouldn't do it in a group of straight friends where there's no girl. Ecstasy is a sensual and tactile drug. And if not alone, you want to try it with the sex you're attracted to. Touches from the opposite sex are very pleasant. A light touch or hug is enough. I haven't experienced sex on Ecstasy. People praise it. For me, Ecstasy reduces the desire for sex. I don't mean erection, but libido. You want to listen to music, people and perceive what's going on around you. Cuddling and naked cuddling would be great, though. If you're alone, porn can also replace your partner quite well.
It also worked for me when I was alone. Otherwise, it can have a negative effect on someone with past demons or mental illness, but I would say that it is still more conciliatory and positive. So the drug has a general effect, except for the pain in the jaw joints after clenching the jaw and the stiffness of the tongue for the next day or 2 days. That's the only thing I find unpleasant about ecstasy. Apparently, you can't prevent it even with a relaxed mouth. It helps a little to blow on your teeth and create saliva or to chew gum. But even that doesn't help completely. It's good to go to bed 5 hours after taking it - then you won't clench your teeth anymore.
How is it similar to cocaine? You have sensitive teeth. Your pupils are dilated, but not too much. Otherwise, I don't know.
You are not hungry at all, and even on other days you can eat less. You enjoy almost any music, probably even the kind you wouldn't normally listen to.
I really enjoy writing to that music. It's an unusual energy. It's not called Ecstasy for nothing.
Comparison of Ecstasy and Alcohol
Ecstasy, like alcohol, will also relieve you of stress – it simply switches you off. An ecstasy pill can produce a slightly more intense state for a few hours than 0.7l of wine drunk over a few hours.
Ecstasy will give you relaxation and euphoria and increased sensitivity like alcohol, but it will not take away your energy. I think that the drug ecstasy will be much gentler on the body - organs, liver, kidneys - than alcohol. The body gets pretty tired as it breaks down alcohol and temporarily loses its immunity and ability to heal well. I often catch a bad cold after alcohol. After ecstasy, my head doesn't hurt and my motor functions are reduced less than with alcohol. It also has the opposite effect of a monkey. You are rested and full of energy. But after Ecstasy, my jaw and tongue hurt.
Supplement for the use of ecstasy alone and during the day
I tried half of the ecstasy alone at home on an empty stomach for lunch. The full effect is noticeable after about 30 minutes, but the onset is gradual after 10 minutes. You want to talk. So I call my friends. It is definitely necessary to have it in company. Again, heightened senses and warmth on the body. Pupils quite ok. The intensive phase is about 30 minutes. Then apparent sobering up and relaxation. The drug still works, but only as a finishing touch. It definitely extremely dampens the desire for sex and you just want to talk and cuddle or rather touch here and there.
That's probably why the dancers at one techno party stood in line like at a Spartakiad and here and there they brushed against someone while moving. For us, all singles have never danced like this :). The second half of the pill has a quick ramp-up to the intense phase. The music will make you feel even more relaxed. The second half is stronger. Reduced concentration for typing on the keyboard. Increased error rate. You feel slight limitations on one task. Multitasking is a little more challenging, but it's possible.
I'm starting to grit my teeth. I'm taking watermelon gum to relax. I find it so sickeningly sweet, it has to go. Mint next time.) I'm listening to a Sia album. That's good. I still have to consciously watch my mouth so I don't clog it. After 20 minutes the intense phase subsides and I'm glad. It was maybe too intense for the night :). After two hours, the ecstasy drug is still working sinfully. But I can concentrate more and relax easily.
You can do it yourself or with music, but someone attractive to the touch would take it a lot further. You don't think about sex at all :). That's an exception for me - an erotomaniac. You just want to enjoy the intensified whirlwind of feelings and warmth. I also enjoy the finishing phase quite a bit. I deliberately didn't go to pee for a long time, so that I could keep it in my body as long as possible.
It's definitely better to take half and then the other half an hour later. The reduction is then very gradual and not sudden like when swallowing a whole pill. I weigh 80 kg. Girls will need less. This also applies to safety – the risk that you buy a pill that is somehow very badly cut and that you have an unusually negative reaction from your body.
Intense phases alternate with more subdued ones. You still tend to clench your teeth and it takes a certain amount of mental energy (attention is probably a weak word) to keep them apart. When you sit and stand up, it wakes you up a bit. After 2.5 hours, it's still really warm and your vision is almost imperceptibly blurred. Your fingers on the keyboard are fully under control again.
The pressure on your mouth to close gradually decreases after 2.5 hours, but it remains. You concentrate on not chattering your teeth and not grinding them together. Then your jaw hurts for up to 2 days. Your mouth is dry because you don't need to drink and you don't chew, or rather, you don't have saliva, unless you focus on it. The heat is pleasant - you sweat a lot, but your feet are also slightly cold. You don't feel tired at all. Your attention will probably be reduced. I take the handsfree out of my ear for up to 40 minutes after the call ends and immediately after the music from the large speaker ends :). Nevertheless, I have no problem writing the short story Holidays with a High School Senior (the link will be added after completion) and it goes beautifully mentally, but my fingers don't have such precise motor coordination. After 4-6 hours, I'm already writing at my limits. I'm relaxed and fully focused on it. Nothing bothers me.
Can the drug ecstasy “rewrite” the brain?
Does Ecstasy open your eyes? It was, or maybe still is, to some extent for me. Similar to alcohol, but more intense.
Ecstasy can, after it wears off, unblock certain mental barriers and make decisions more subconsciously and according to what you really want. You may (or may not) see some things more clearly and you can accept an otherwise unpleasant answer. For example, from life and your partner. What you might not dare to say otherwise. Others may call it selfishness. But I don't see it that way. You have more respect for others and for your needs. You respect others and yourself more. It will help a person with a big ego to compare himself with himself and others.
On the other hand, if you are on the right path in life - according to your desires, it can confirm you on that path or you will not experience any "unblocking" or "rewriting" of your brain 🙂 because you do not need any change to be happy.
I can't say whether Ecstasy can give you answers. I'm not an esotericist or in any way spiritual. I just wanted to try Ecstasy, how it works. Ecstasy and the event associated with it helped me clarify one important thing in my life. My "selfishness" paradoxically ended up bringing more happiness not only to me, but also to the people who originally stood in the way of my desires. Our relationship is now stronger and fuller in every way. But it could have turned out badly for everyone. I take this "insight" and improvement in life to a large extent as a coincidence connected with those other circumstances. But the influence of ecstasy was there. I can't deny that. In any case, I don't expect any life insight or enlightenment from the drug ecstasy. I'm just saying that it can come in a positive or negative sense, and that a certain fear or caution in this regard is in order.
I think that ecstasy is not a type of drug that causes hallucinations or anxiety, as can be the case with LSD, for example.
Addiction
I have no urge to take ecstasy again and I don't miss it at all. But other drugs, which are undoubtedly addictive, haven't had the same effect on me. But unlike ecstasy, they haven't done anything to me.
Difference between Ecstasy and MDMA
Ecstasy is MDMA mixed with other, ambiguously named psychotropic substances. According to an experienced user, it is “more effervescent” – it waves at you more. I can confirm this. Ecstasy is stronger than MDMA.
Detectability of Ecstasy
It depends on how drugs affect someone. Drugs have relatively little effect on me. 1 pill of ecstasy has no effect on me except for the clenching of my jaw and I always have an excuse for that.
I recommend these songs with a good vibe that will warm you up and make you feel good 🙂: https://www.youtube.com/@TrapNation But you might like anything 🙂 Of course, you need to have Premium or normal free Youtube with an ad blocker (they are free).
Biological effects of ecstasy
Retrieved from Chat GPT. It suits me very well. But the decrease in physical or mental abilities was only slight. No negative feelings or fatigue. Except for clenching teeth and not wanting to eat the next day :). For me everything was ok for a week, two weeks after use, when it completely subsided. But other users also had poor range.
1. How MDMA affects the brain
a) Neurochemical mechanism
MDMA massively increases the concentration of three neurotransmitters:
- Serotonin (5-HT) – a sharp outpouring causes euphoria, empathy, and emotional openness.
- Dopamine – contributes to a feeling of energy and motivation.
- Noradrenaline – increases heart rate, blood pressure and alertness.
The substance works by:
- reverses the transporters of serotonin, dopamine and noradrenaline,
- prevents their re-uptake,
- empties neurotransmitter stores into the synapse.
b) Effect on brain circuits
- Limbic system – stronger emotions, a feeling of closeness to people.
- Prefrontal cortex – reduced impulse control and impaired decision-making.
- Hypothalamus – temperature deregulation, risk of overheating.
c) After-effects
Serotonin stores are depleted → the following may occur:
- temporary depression, irritability, anxiety,
- fatigue, sleep problems, concentration problems.
Repeated or high use may cause:
- oxidative stress of neurons,
- damage to serotonergic pathways (long-term lower mood, memory problems).
2. How MDMA affects the body
a) The most common physical effects
- Rapid heartbeat, increased blood pressure.
- Dilated pupils.
- Increased body temperature (thermoregulation disorder).
- Bruxism – jaw clenching, teeth grinding. (I confirm - my jaw hurts for 1-2 days after that).
- Increased sweating, dehydration.
- Decreased appetite, muscle tension, nausea. (I confirm reduced appetite for 2 days)
b) Hazardous reactions
- Hyperthermia – the body can go up by several degrees; the most common cause of death from MDMA.
- Hyponatremia – some people drink too much water → dangerous dilution of electrolytes.
- Cardiac strain – risk in people with cardiovascular problems.
- Serotonin syndrome – when combined with other substances affecting serotonin.
c) Long-term consequences of repeated use
- deterioration of memory and learning ability,
- emotional numbness or mood swings,
- reduced sensitivity to serotonin,
- possible problems with thermoregulation and chronic fatigue.
3. How long will it take for the substance to wear off and the body to return to normal?
I am introducing typical range – individual variations are common.
1. How long does MDMA last?
- Boarding: 20–60 minutes.
- Peak effect: 2–3 hours.
- Total duration of effect: 4–6 hours (up to 8 hours for larger doses).
- Comedown: another 6–24 hours.
2. How long does it take for the substance to leave the body?
- Biological half-life: 8–9 hours.
- Elimination from the body: usually 30–40 hours before most of the substance is metabolized and excreted.
- MDMA can be found in urine 1–3 days, even longer in large doses.
Be careful: just because a substance is "out" does not mean that the brain will immediately return to balance.
3. How long does it take for the body and brain to return to „normal“?“
a) Short-term physiological recovery
- Hydration, pulse, body temperature: to 12–24 hours after the effect wears off.
- Sleep and fatigue: normalization usually 1–2 days.
b) Brain – serotonin restoration
MDMA significantly depletes serotonin stores → this causes fatigue, low mood or irritability.
Typical range:
- Easier to use: 2–4 days for mood and energy to stabilize.
- Medium use: 4–7 days.
- High doses or frequent use: may take 1–3 weeks, until the chemical equilibrium returns to normal.
c) Cognitive functions
- Concentration, memory, and mental acuity usually return to normal. within 3–7 days.
- With repeated use, fluctuations may be more pronounced and recovery may take longer.
4. Risks of contaminated tablets
Ecstasy often does not contain pure MDMA. It may be mixed with, for example:
- PMMA / PMMA – extremely dangerous stimulants,
- methamphetamine (gingerbread)
- synthetic cathinones ("bath salts"),
- impurities that significantly increase toxicity.
5. Comparison of 1 ecstasy pill and 1 liter of wine in 4 hours (80kg person)
1 liter of wine causes significantly more metabolic and liver strain, while 1 pill of MDMA carries a greater risk acute life-threatening conditions (overheating, cardiac stress, impurities) and higher neurochemical load brain.
6. How common is MDMA addiction?
According to available epidemiological data (CHatGPT):
- MDMA addiction is less common than alcohol, amphetamine, cocaine or opioids,
- estimates indicate that about 5–10 % regular users shows signs of addiction or problematic use.
The risk increases significantly with:
- using more than 1× monthly,
- combining with other stimulants,
- use as a coping strategy (to improve functioning in society).
The price of an ecstasy pill is around 10 euros. We cannot offer the drug ecstasy in stores or provide it in any other way.
